Wisconsin’s Nonprofit Support Network

Empowering Sustainability

Our intent is to offer an accessible listing of resources for nonprofits provided by nonprofits, educational, and state entities.

The Wisconsin Nonprofit Resources Group (WisNRG) began when UW-Madison’s Center for Community and Nonprofit Studies started a new initiative. The Morgridge Center for Public Service joined them to explore responses. They aimed to solve increased inquiries from community and nonprofit organizations across Wisconsin. As these organizations sought accessible, free, or reduced-cost resources, one thing became clear. Nonprofit and community organizations often need more resources. They must be cautious about identifying accessible, affordable, or free support to improve their mission-based work.

This led to a bigger question. Exactly where do nonprofit and community organizations go to find these resources? In March 2016, a convening brought together higher education institutions, public sector representatives, nonprofit centers, community foundations, and funders. It also included other nonprofit sources that serve nonprofits. This group continues to meet quarterly. They are working to develop an accessible inventory of public and nonprofit sector offerings. These offerings are available to nonprofit and community organizations throughout Wisconsin.

WHY: Wisconsin nonprofit and community organizations can gain from a Wisconsin-wide platform. This platform allows stakeholders to share about efforts, practices, resources, and needs.

WHAT: WisNRG is a collective of “service-tier” public and nonprofit organizations that coordinate efforts to tackle the sector’s needs.

HOW: We collect, compile, share, and communicate information about efforts and resources. We also tackle gaps in the Wisconsin community and nonprofit sector and work to increase access to resources.
